A friend tipped me off that there was a “big old receiver” over at our local Goodwill store. I hurried over and found a Pioneer SX 1250 receiver and fetched it for $50.00. It’s in excellent condition and is a good match for my Martin Logan speakers. It’s conservatively rated at 160 watts per channel, however test data shows no signs of clipping until about 188 watts. It weighs in at an impressive 65 pounds and is finished in a beautiful wood enclosure with a silver front panel. Most important is that it sounds oh so good! At the heart of my bedroom system is a Sansui AU 717 Intergrated amp and it sounds good too. It powers a pair of Paradigm 8″ two-way speakers. Yes, I do love the vintage audio gear. Careful purchases has allowed me to get high end performance and stay within my modest budget.
