Mixing Whiskey with Music

Sunday July 5, 2009
While perusing the Pioneer Electronics website, I came across the Pure Malt Speakers, bookshelf speakers made from 50-year old Oak Whiskey barrels. According to Pioneer, their speaker engineers found that the wood from the barrels had excellent acoustic properties. In their words, "a mature, mellow tone." Ordinarily I would roll my eyes at such a claim, but I recently reviewed a pair of Pioneer Architectural speakers and found them to be excellent. I have also met their chief speaker designer who really knows his stuff, so I will resist rolling my eyes until I have a chance to hear and review the Pure Malt Speakers.
