It’s a good idea to learn exactly what multi-room (MR) capability an AVR has before you buy one. Some just have an MR output that sends a second fixed-level source out. Others can also re-assign surround channels 6 and 7 as MR channels to run stereo in a second location. An A-Bus Ready AVR will send a second source to an A-Bus hub which can run up to four more zones. You can use MR-out and A-Bus together to run five zones, one of them higher powered (say for outdoor speakers). But there are some issues with newer A-Bus ready receivers having difficulties with older A-Bus hubs so make sure you can return anything easily.
