With all the talk about 3D movies and television, I find it noteworthy that film and TV sound systems have been 3D for many years. It started with Dolby Surround, which provided left, center, right channels and a single surround channel to place the listener in the action. 3D or surround sound music actually began with quad-sound in the 1970s. Today we have Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD digital multichannel sound formats for truly stunning three-dimensional soundtracks and music recordings with multiple digital channels to bathe the listener in a soundfield. When properly setup, even a stereo system with good imaging and soundstage qualities can create a quasi-3D listening experience. So, 3D TV is great, but don't forget the 3D sound that goes with it. It's not home theater without the sound.
