In a recent blog, I noted that many speaker manufacturers at CES 2011 are emphasizing smaller, lower cost models with excellent performance. I was mostly correct. That is, until I visited Wisdom Audio to see and hear the new LS4 on-wall loudspeakers. When I first read the news about this speaker, the photo seemed to show a speaker about 24" to 36" tall, but in reality they are over 80" tall and almost 300 lbs. each. The LS4 is an on-wall speaker, but with a floorstanding pedestal to support it. The LS4 features four planar magnetic panels with midrange and high-frequency panels running the entire height of the speaker. In fact, the surface area of the tweeter panels is equivalent to 96 1-inch tweeters! The bass, below 80 Hz is handled by the STS subwoofers. This is audio reproduction at its finest and the music demos were spellbinding. The Wisdom Audio LS4 will be available for $80,000 per pair. The LS3, with three panels is approximately $60,000 per pair. They're beyond my budget, but if I could afford them, they would be in my living room. The LS4 is truly a new dimension in on-wall speakers, perhaps the ultimate. For more information, check out Wisdom Audio.
