Don't Miss Out on the Best Part of Television: The Sound
TV Sound: The Best Part of Movies, Sports and TV Shows

By Gary Altunian, About.com

As most Americans probably know, February is the month when analog over-the-air television broadcasts switch over to digital. As a result, many consumers are deciding to replace their TVs or purchasing a converter box to receive digital signals. (For more information about digital television read the DTV Transition Guide by Robert Silva, About.com Home Theater Guide). Either way, it's important to consider the sound system that goes with the television. One of the most exciting parts of enjoying movies, sports or TV shows is the sound and if you're listening to the small speakers built into a television you're really missing out.

Some people add a complete home theater system to the television which can be as simple as a one-box system, known as home theater in a box . Others choose to purchase separate components and speakers for the best listening experience. Another great idea is a 2.1 channel system that uses two stereo speakers and a subwoofer for television sound. A 2.1 channel system is a remarkable improvement over the inadequate speakers built into most TVs and it avoids the clutter of multiple speakers needed for a home theater system. You can also connect the audio output of your TV to your existing stereo system and add a subwoofer, or purchase a 2.1 channel system with a receiver and speakers. Either way, one thing is certain: you'll get much more enjoyment from watching television with a good sound system. Don't miss out on the best part of digital television or HDTV: the SOUND!
