How to Avoid a Traffic Ticket While Using Your Cell Phone

By Gary Altunian, About.com

Many states have passed laws that prohibit talking on a hand-held cell phone while driving. Other states are examining the correlation between cell phone use and automobile accidents and are considering enacting such laws. If your state is on the list it’s a good time to go hands-free. A headset is one solution, but dialing the phone or looking for a contact name is still a driving distraction. A better solution is a wireless Bluetooth adapter for your vehicle’s mobile audio system. Alpine and Kenwood offer Bluetooth adapters that allow you to receive and make calls from compatible in-dash receivers when using a Bluetooth enabled cell phone. You can listen to a caller though the vehicle's sound system and speak through a small microphone installed on the dashboard or sun visor. Some will also download the contents of your phonebook to the receiver for viewing on the display. These units may require professional installation, but there is a do-it-yourself solution. BlueAnt offers the Supertooth II Bluetooth Speakerphone, a wireless accessory that clips to the vehicle’s sun visor. It requires no installation costs and you can move it between different vehicles. Either way, it’s a safer way to use your cell phone while driving, and a good way to avoid a traffic ticket!
