Stereo Systems on the Go

By Gary Altunian, About.com

For some, portable and personal audio players have become a primary source of music, replacing their home stereo. Although a home stereo system still offers the best sound quality, enjoying favorite music on the go becomes the deciding factor. An Apple iPod or MP3 personal music player can store and organize up to thousands of songs making it a convenient and personal way to enjoy music. Although the iPod has become the ubiquitous player because of its ease of use with the iTunes application, there are many brands to consider.

A personal music player can also be used as a music source for a portable system. Many players, including the iPod can be plugged into a docking station from Sony (and many others) for playback through speakers. You can also use an iPod for whole house music distribution with the iPort from Sonance. MSB even offers the i-Link docking station for the iPod, which taps into the digital output of the player, bypassing the analog circuits for the best quality. The i-Link connects to a home stereo system so your favorite tunes stored on your iPod can be played through your home stereo system.
