How to Connect Analog Source Components to a Receiver or Amp

By

Analog Inputs and Outputs:

Analog tape players, such as a cassette deck have only analog connections, inputs and outputs. Follow the steps below to connect the tape deck to the receiver.
  • Connect the left and right channel analog outputs of the cassette deck (probably labeled TAPE OUT) to the left and right channel tape inputs (probably labeled TAPE IN) on the receiver or amplifier.
  • Connect the left and right channel TAPE OUT outputs of the receiver or amp to the left and right channel TAPE IN inputs on the cassette deck.

DVD and CD players also have analog outputs. Analog connections for DVD and CD players are optional, except in the event that your receiver or amp has only analog inputs or if you are connecting a DVD player directly to a television set and not using a receiver. If necessary, connect the left and right channel analog outputs of the player(s) to the analog inputs of the receiver, amplifier or television.
